They call on Robert de La Tour, a retired Boston detective and his brother, Eugene, a newspaper reporter, to investigate. Their investigation takes them to Pumpelly Cave, the Dublin Art Colony and the Halfway House hotel where they meet famous people like Mark Twain and not-yet-famous people like Franklin Roosevelt and Robert Frost.
